Is there another way to enjoy the mint flavor without all that smashed up mint floating around in the glass?

My great-grandfather's recipe for Mint Juleps calls for making a simple sugar syrup and infusing it with mint leaves. Then simply strain the simple sugar syrup before putting two teaspoons over crushed ice in a silver stirrup cup and filling to the brim with the best bourbon you can find! You may garnish with whole mint leaves if you wish, but you won't have any mint leaves or parts of mint leaves floating in the drink!

You have to try this. Susan Martinson, in Richmond, VA, just packaged this natural simple syrup. She can ship the product. It's presently available in ABC stores in Virginia.

You can strain the contents over fresh ice and reduce/remove the mint. Another idea would be to use mint oil instead of mint leaves.
